The present paper based system of servicing records involves a great deal of repetitive entries of basic data and creates a stack of paper for every individual item that then requires filing and storing. This manual method of inspection and service processing and control is time consuming, inefficient and pone to mistakes, leaving holes in compliance and creating additional risk. The servicing team describe their current mode of operation as ‘old fashioned’ and ‘inefficient’ and ‘we are looking for a way of operating a more professional system’ that brought them into the 21st Century.

R2c’s R2C Online is a perfect system to cope with the diversity of equipment and vehicles that Avon Fire & Rescue operate and can be used at the central workshop or out at one of the field stations for ‘on-site’ repairs. This best practice platform has now been extensively developed and customised for the UK Fire sector and is the only true alternative to pushing legal and service paperwork backwards and forwards between fleets.

R2c has been able to integrate the R2C system with Civica’s Tranman fleet management system enabling Avon Fire & Rescue to have a complete servicing and management package without having to re-key any information between the two. The easy-to-use system allows operators to view the status of any vehicle or ongoing repair work enabling substation staff to check stages without the need for a phone call. The system is more robust than before, eliminating piles of paperwork and the inherent mistakes of a paper-based system.

“The easy on-screen procedures alert us to the servicing requirements of all our fleet and then guide servicing operators though the necessary checks and repairs” added Ian Havens. “With all the data stored on an internet server we have reduced our paperwork, reduced the time taken to input data and made our servicing operations as efficient as possible”

Ian further added “We have also integrally incorporated the Chief Fire Officer Associations guidelines on the Best Practice for the Maintenance of Fire Service Vehicles into the R2C solution, so now technicians can access and check this information as they do the work on the shop floor.”
